I had a 2-fold epiphany a couple of Sunday's ago at church. The revelation came during Praise and Worship.
I've always been fascinated with missionary and missionaries stories. The greater the sacrifice the more my heart would tremble with an unspoken longing. That Sunday the Lord just downloaded this revelation to me:
"I, too, am a missionary. . . in my own home!"
I never saw it. Others who know me might have seen it, I just never had. Instead of me going out, the Lord brought them to me! I, too, have been sowing Gospel seeds in foreign soil of witchcraft, demonic strongholds, generational curses, drug & alcohol addictions, racism, false religious teachings, sexual lewdness, and so much more. Multi-cultural, multi-racial mission field . . . My Home!
When God said with Isaiah 49:22 "See, I will beckon to the nations . . . they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their hips.", I didn't realize that this was what the Lord meant.
The second part of the revelation is this: I had been carrying a false responsibility for the Harvest in my children's lives. If I was on a literal mission field, I don't think I would have felt as responsible for the harvest from the seeds I've sown. But because they are my children, I felt responsible for the outcome, responsible for the harvest of the Gospel in their lives. In a foreign country, I couldn't force someone to love my Jesus. All I'm responsible for is pointing them to HIM!
Dear Parents, I just want to encourage you with that truth because it applies to you as well. Maybe like me you are weary and burdened with your children's not so wise choices. You've prayed, talked, loved the unlovely and still . . . the negative choices are made. Do NOT despair !!! The God of the Harvest in your child's life will surely finish the good work that He's started! (Phil. 1:6).
So chin up! Keep your eyes focused on the Son. Sow truth in love when He tells you to, and water those seeds with the water of His Word! But dear Parents, always remember He is the Harvester - that's His responsibility! If you are guilty of trying to be the God of the Harvest in your child's life, come join me in repentance and let's relinquish our hold on God's Harvest in our children's lives! His timing is perfect, and He will gather the Harvest when it's exactly right!
