Teaching Tuesday / Training Begins At Home

We recently went back to Mama's ole home place. I always try to run down there this time of year to enjoy her old Japanese Magnolia tree. She was always so delighted every year to bask in its beauty.

Home! Where we are shaped, modeled, trained for good or bad. Home is a powerful place! It's were our deepest values are planted within our hearts and minds. It's where we get our foundational beliefs of wrong and right.

HOME! The place where we receive our TRAINING TO BECOME THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT WE WILL BE IN OUR ADULT LIFE!

SOBERING THOUGHT . . . WE ARE RAISING ADULTS!

That's right! You aren't raising children. You are raising adults. Raising adults to obey God or disobey God. Did you know that that is our primary task as parents? To teach our children to OBEY God. How you have trained your child to respond to your authority, to your commands, is the exact same way that they will respond to God! THAT'S WHY PROPER TRAINING IS SO IMPORTANT!

Notice how these magnolia blossoms didn't fall too far from the magnolia tree. They aren't blanketing the ground under the pecan trees. Neither will your children fall too far away from your training. God's word promises us that, even if they do for a season, if we trained them up in the way that should go that they won't depart from those teachings when they are old. (Proverbs 22:6)

What I'm noticing more and more is that proper training in obedience, character, and godliness is being replaced with the busy, rat-racing lives of exhausted parents that are too drained to train.

Please, hear my heart! This is not a let's bash the "tired" parents. Dear parent, if you think that your four year olds temper tantrum is something out of this world, wait til you see a 14 year old's one. If you have bought into the lie that they will outgrow it, they won't. If you don't adjust your life to prioritize your parenting of that precious child that God's given you stewardship over, I can promise you that the results are not pretty. and you are creating a nightmare that you do not want to live through.

I beseech you, please, take time to train your dear children. You love them so much that you would buy them anything under the sun , and kill yourself in the process trying to do it.

But what they NEED MOST is you! Loving them enough to say "No!" Teaching them to crucify their fleshly desires, and the best way to do that is by modeling that lifestyle in front of them. Train them in the art of kindness, truthfulness, and love for others. And all these things should begIn in your HOME!

IT TAKES TIME TO TRAIN!

BUT I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU WILL NEVER SPEND YOUR TIME ON ANYTHING AS VALUABLE AS ON THE TRAINING OF YOU CHILD! THE REWARD IS ETERNAL!
