My beautiful cup just makes you want to sit and enjoy a lovely cup of tea or coffee doesn't it? Not so fast, you might want to look inside!
It's August 2001, and the 700 Club would be here in 3 days to do an interview of our family! Terrifying is still the word that comes to mind.
We had 17 children living at home at the time, ages from 17 or 18 all the way down to a one year old! like I said . . . terrifying. What scared me the most was the actual interview itself. I hate being in front of a camera.
I was a nervous wreck. Everything had to be spotless. Camera's see everything! Even with all the help from others, I was frantic to get everything as perfect as possible. I was cleaning, scrubbing, and dusting everything like a crazy woman. But God literally stopped me in my frantic tracks. I was getting tired from all the stress and extra work, and not staying in His Kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy when He halted me with these verses:
"Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. Woe to you . . . you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness." Matt. 23 : 26-28 ( MSG)

Now that you've actually looked inside, you're not eager at all to drink from my lovely but DIRTY cup! I don't blame you.
I don't know if you've ever had God call you a hypocrite before, but it is a very sobering experience. I cried like a baby, but I also repented. Stopped! Took a deep breath and let Him readjust my focus onto heavenly things like maintaining peace, love, and joy in my home for my precious family!
Holy Spirit made me realize that the most important thing the camera crew needed to see and experience was HIM, present and accounted for in our home. NOT some lunatic, neat freak that had stressed herself and the entire family out!
So, I adjusted my focus. Put time with Him first. Came back into His sweet Kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy. And the 700 Club crew ? Well, they did see, feel, and experience Him! It was one of the things that stood out to them the most!
Thank You, Holy Spirit for reminding me once again that regardless of how pretty that cup is . . . it's what it looks like on the inside that counts!
